Police carried out a search at a property on Tennyson Avenue in Rock Ferry at midday on Wednesday, November 20 last year and spotted a suspect inside who was detained.

During the inspection of the property, authorities discovered five rooms dedicated to cannabis cultivation, which housed a total of 97 plants.

A second search warrant was executed at a residence on Town Lane in Tranmere, uncovering another cannabis cultivation operation that featured four growing rooms housing a total of 147 plants.

At Liverpool Crown Court today (Wednesday, January 15), Danjel Markaj, 25, of no fixed address was sentenced to 12 months, while Pjetri Ferdinant, 23, of no fixed address was jailed for 15 months.

Both individuals were convicted of manufacturing a Class B controlled substance (cannabis).

Detective Inspector Andrew Schofield stated: “Cannabis cultivation in residential neighborhoods not only disturbs local residents by bringing in anti-social activities, but it also presents a genuine danger to their safety.”

"The managers of cannabis farms manipulate electrical systems and overload outlets, posing a significant risk of fire hazards and demonstrating a blatant disregard for the safety of nearby residents."

"Living near a potential hazard like this is undesirable for anyone, and it's primarily due to the vigilance of local residents who share their concerns, along with the proactive efforts of our officers, that we are able to intervene effectively."

“Should you notice any indications of cannabis cultivation in your vicinity, whether at home or work, please inform us. Your input is invaluable for our efforts to take appropriate measures. Every piece of information assists both the community and our initiatives, so don’t hesitate to reach out, and we will look into it.”

Here are several indicators that cannabis cultivation might be taking place:
- Unusual odors and noises
- Regular and diverse guests arriving at a property, frequently during unconventional hours.
- Bringing gardening tools and supplies into a property, including items like plant containers, fertilizers, fans, and commercial-grade lighting.
- The windows are either sealed and covered, or the curtains remain shut at all times.
- Warmth emanating from a neighboring property
- A flock of birds congregating atop a rooftop during chilly weather.

On their own, these activities might appear ordinary, but when combined, they could suggest something more dubious.
