I never thought my car would track my smile, but that feature and lots of others could be coming to a vehicle near you in the not-too-distant feature. The LG Vision AI Mobility Concept here at CES 2025 uses a combination of sensors, cameras and AI to not only keep tabs on your health and stress, it gives you a driving report, complete with a score.

As I entered the cockpit of this futuristic vehicle, it was clear that I was in for a cutting-edge experience. With the ability to select my route through eye tracking, I opted for the scenic path featuring beautiful mountains and the ocean in the distance. Once I began to drive, I realized that the steering wheel was monitoring my heart rate as well.

Additionally, the LG Vision AI Mobility Concept monitors your stress levels in real-time (which can be quite stressful, right?), and it analyzes your posture, indicating whether you're distracted by creating a 3D skeleton model. At one moment, I feigned a phone call, holding my phone to my ear, and noticed a red alert appear in the lower right corner of the display.

The LG technology is capable of detecting whether you're sitting in a standard position or too near the dashboard, as well as whether you're smoking, drinking, conversing, or even yawning. It might come off as a bit unsettling, but it certainly has the ability to recognize if your attention is elsewhere.

What about your mood? I saw a small face in the center of the screen with the word Neutral written underneath it. I was curious about how to improve it, and I learned that if I smiled, it would change to happy. However, it’s not just any smile...it has to be genuine, I suppose.

At the conclusion of the journey, the LG Vision AI Mobility Concept provides a comprehensive health assessment, including your heart rate, stress level, emotional well-being, and a driving performance score. For this particular demonstration, I received a score of 81 out of 100, attributed to the intentional distractions experienced throughout the ride.

While it's unlikely that this technology will be integrated into cars this year, we may start to see some of these safety features implemented in vehicles over the next few years. I can easily envision AI assistants in cars gently nudging you to stay attentive or suggesting a coffee break if you appear to be getting sleepy.

I'm really looking forward to what's ahead, but I can't help feeling a bit anxious too.
